Green Onions

Also referred to as scallions or spring onions, green onions are a flavorful addition to any savory dish, and are packed with vitamins and minerals. You can even enjoy the bright green tops or the bulbs for an added crunch, making them a great addition to salads, stir fries, soups and pastas. Or, roast green onions until they’re golden brown, and serve on their own.

In the store, pick green onions that have fresh, green tops and mostly white ends.

Store in a plastic bag in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator to ensure five to seven days of freshness. Keep green onions away from odor-sensitive foods like mushrooms and corn.

Trim off the roots and the very tops of the greens before washing and serving.


Green onions are an excellent source of vitamins K and C, and a very good source of vitamin A and folic acid.
